Injective cosmetology

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases or enhance facial contours. It is a cost-effective way to look younger without surgery or downtime. The most common type of fillers and what’s used in our practice is Hyaluronic acid and Poly-L-lactic Acid.

Hyaluronic acid (HA)

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin. It helps keep skin plump and hydrated and adds volume. The results are temporary, lasting 6 to 18 months or longer before the body gradually and naturally absorbs the particles. Most HA fillers are infused with lidocaine which is an anesthetic, that helps minimize discomfort during and after treatment. Here are some products we use in our practice:

  1. Juvéderm collection
  2. Restylane collection
  3. Belotero Balance
  4. The RHA collection: RHA 2, RHA 3, and RHA 4

Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)

Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is a biocompatible (meaning it is safe to use in the body), biodegradable synthetic substance. It has been used for many years in medical devices, such as dissolvable stitches. PLLA products are technically classified as “collagen stimulators,” as their main mechanism to smooth fine lines is by helping your skin rebuild natural collagen filler gel itself dissipates a few days after treatment but stimulates collagen production and restores volumes within a few months. Results can last more than 2 years. FDA-approved PLLA fillers include Sculptra® Aesthetic.

There are a number of filler brands on the market, including Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Sculptra. Here is a quick item list for results: Juvederm Voluma: about 24 months; touch-up treatment at 12 months will help with longevity; Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus: almost 12 months with touch-ups needed at 6 to 9 months; Juvederm Vollure: approximately 12 to 18 months; Juvederm Volbella: approximately 12 months; Restylane Defyne, Refyne, and Lyft: approximately 12 months with touch-ups suggested at 6 to 9 months; Restylane Silk: approximately 6 to 10 months; Restylane-L: approximately 5 to 7 months; Radiesse: approximately 12 months; Sculptra: more than 24 months; and Belafill: may last up to 5 years; All in all, touch-up treatments are highly recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists for longer-lasting results.

What do Dermal Fillers do?

Dermal fillers are simply injections of hyaluronic acid-based gel that fill in wrinkles and add volume to soft tissues on your face, such as the mouth, cheeks, jawline, and area around the eyes. Then there are lip fillers for lip tissue. The fillers utilized during the procedure help restore plump areas and lost volume to your face, and deep-set lines are smoothed. For most of us, collagen and elastin levels decline at 2% a year, starting at age 25, which is a key reason why we lose our youthful look. However, dermal fillers are a clever solution to address aging and make the skin look more rejuvenated.

What are the benefits of dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers offer quick results that are long-lasting with touch-ups, and the treatment requires little downtime. Overall, the treatment will make you look better and be a confidence booster. When you experience the results, you will wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
